Winton Trail Run – Saturday 28th March 2020


In this uncertain time with the threat of COVID-19 looming over the country, we have taken the decision that the Trail Run should be postponed to ensure the health and well-being of participants and volunteers. We hope to run the event later in the year so please keep your eyes peeled for further updates.

Full refunds will be processed for those already signed up for the event.

Winton Trail Run: 10k, 5k or Family 3.5k

The Winton Trail Run is over 10k, 5k or Family 3.5k tracks, and offers a unique opportunity to run off road through some of East Lothian’s most beautiful countryside on Winton Estate. The next annual Winton Trail Run is on Saturday 28th March 2020 (registration 12pm – 1:30pm, first race starts at 2pm).

There are clearly marked and marshalled off road trail routes for everyone to enjoy.

The Winton Trail Run raises funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and local registered charities, the Pencaitland Primary School PTA and Pencaitland Playgroup.

Charity running packs and sponsorship forms can be obtained via Marie Curie once you have registered online.

Refreshments and entertainment will be running throughout the day in our Walled Garden festival area.

5k Run – £10 advanced entry, £12 on the day (16 years and over)

Junior 5k Run – £6 advanced entry, £7 on the day (11-15 years)

3.5k Family Run£5 advanced entry, £6 on the day

*All children under 8 years old must register & run with an adult*

Any child under 8 years collecting a race number on the day without a designated adult 3.5k participant, will unfortunately not be permitted to run.

One registration desk per race.

Online applicants will already be allocated numbers and can be collect from the “pre-registered” desks.

Early collection of number and chips may be possible – please check our website/facebook page for details nearer the time.

There will be on the day registration but places may be limited and with no guarantee of timing chip.

Timing chips & numbers will be issued at registration, please ensure you write your emergency contact details on the reverse.

Whilst the proprietors of Winton Castle regularly maintain the tracks and footpaths, runners should come adequately prepared for uneven, grass, gravel or mud surfaces.

All routes are extensively sign posted and well marshalled. Safety is paramount and we expect runners to follow the advice of marshals and the police at all times especially at points where the 10k route crosses the main road.

To ensure runner safety the wearing of headphones is strictly prohibited.

Dogs are permitted in the festival area but must be on a lead and under control at all times.

First Aid provision will be on site should you have any concerns.

Parking will be available within Winton Estate, however we encourage car sharing where possible to ease congestion, especially in bad weather.

Toilet facilities are located in the potting shed, within Winton Castle and additional outdoor portaloos in the festival area.

An unattended bag drop area is available.

The organisers accept no responsibility for loss or damage of personal items or vehicles whilst using our facilities.

Cafe facilities will be available in the walled garden festival area.

Water will be available on the 10k route and at the finish line however we encourage everyone to bring their own water bottles which can be filled on site before and after the race.

Reusable Winton water bottles and Winton Trail Run T-shirts can also be purchased on the day, before and after the race.

Race Start and Finish Times

All races start and finish at Winton Castle, Pencaitland, East Lothian. EH34 5AT.

Warm up session in festival area from 1.45pm.

Race start times:

  • 10k – 2pm
  • 5k – 2:05pm
  • 5k Junior – 2:10pm
  • 3.5k Family – 2:15pm

Please hand back your timing chips at the end of the race – failure to do so will incur a £5 charge per chip.

All race times will be displayed on our Facebook page and our website after the race.

Every competitor should confirm their safe arrival back at the finish desk even if they have not been able to complete the course.


The 10K route water station is situated at the 5k point.

Water will be available at the finish line but we encourage runners to bring their own re-fillable bottles which can be filled from a water point in the walled garden.

Cafe facilities and entertainment will be available in the walled garden festival area.

Race Prizes – Presentation at 3:15pm

1st, 2nd & 3rd positions for all categories will receive a Winton Winner T-shirt and handmade limited edition Winton medal.

All race competitors will receive a (delicious!) biscuit medal at the finish which they can choose to decorate!

Photographs will be taken during the day for social media and promotional purposes. Please email the organiser prior to closing date with your name and race number if you do not wish your photograph to be used.
