Our Scottish Renaissance castle is popular with families from overseas, golfing groups and senior executives, all looking for the experience of a lifetime.
Despite its grandeur, Winton Castle is not overly formal with open fires and a family ambience. It is always warm and welcoming. We call it ‘intimacy on a grand scale’.
Today, the West side of the castle is the Ogilvy family home, while you and your guests will enjoy the privacy of the East side of the castle.
Our Scottish Castle is surrounded by mature gardens, set within tranquil East Lothian countryside, conveniently located about 40 minutes from Edinburgh city centre (15 miles) and Edinburgh international airport.
With two sharing, Winton Castle can comfortably sleep up to 20 guests over 10 beautiful bedrooms (6 are en suite). All are provided with bathrobes, slippers, towels and toiletries.
Please also note that due to the castle’s grade A listing and 350 year old plasterwork, 4 of the 10 bedrooms currently do not have en suite bathrooms so visitors share 3 showers rooms between them.

Winton Castle’s Rich History
Winton Castle was originally a stronghold for Scotland’s powerful Seton clan and has many connections to Mary Queen of Scots and the royal court.
The castle was burnt down by Henry VIII during the ‘rough wooing’ and rebuilt in the impressive style of the Scottish Renaissance by no less than the King’s Master Mason. He designed the intricate ceilings which adorn the inter-connecting reception rooms, and the carved, twisted chimneys which herald the palace within.
You’ll enjoy relaxing in the King Charles Room, warmed by roaring fire and surrounded by the master pieces which adorn the walls.
