Wedding Venue near Edinburgh, Scotland
Winton Castle is an exclusive use wedding venue steeped in history that blends the grandeur of a palace with the intimacy of a family home. We fondly call this ‘intimacy on a grand scale’.
Our romantic Scottish Renaissance castle is a hidden gem surrounded by mature gardens, set within tranquil East Lothian countryside, conveniently located about 40 minutes from Edinburgh city centre (15 miles) and Edinburgh international airport.
The castle and its gardens are all yours for the duration of your own castle wedding. Unlike a hotel, this guarantees that your celebration is uninterrupted by other events.
By limiting the number of weddings held each year, we ensure that Winton Castle is still something of a well-kept secret. It also guarantees that you receive the very best attention from start to finish. Whether your want an intimate celebration for 40 or a grand banquet for up to 250 guests, Winton Castle is a fabulous, flexible venue to hold your wedding.
A few wedding dates are still available for 2026 and our diary is now filling up for 2027!

A Wedding Venue for All Seasons

Spring Weddings
As the season awakens, the grounds of Winton Castle come alive with carpets of daffodils and clouds of cherry blossom. Spring brings a fresh, uplifting atmosphere, ideal for couples who love colour and light, without the heat of high summer.
Weather permitting, ceremonies and receptions can take place outdoors, surrounded by vibrant gardens and new growth. Late spring often offers some of Scotland’s brightest, driest days, making it a quietly beautiful time to celebrate.
See some of our couples’ wedding stories or videos.
Spring weddings also offer the opportunity to enjoy mid-season savings of approximately 15% during March and April.

Summer Weddings
In summer, Winton Castle reveals its most relaxed and romantic side. On sunlit days, wedding ceremonies can take place outdoors in the Walled Garden or within the terraced gardens overlooking Sir David’s Loch, with the Castle itself providing a timeless backdrop.
When the weather is kind, celebrations naturally spill outdoors. Following the ceremony, guests can gather on the croquet lawn beside the Castle for a laid-back reception, complete with garden games and long summer evenings. And should the weather change, Winton’s indoor spaces offer equally beautiful alternatives, ensuring the day feels seamless whatever the forecast.

Autumn Weddings
As the gardens shift to rich shades of gold and amber, Winton Castle becomes an especially atmospheric setting for an autumn wedding. The changing landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for seasonal photography, while open fires throughout the Castle create a warm, welcoming sense of home.
Outdoor ceremonies remain an option in the autumn months, weather permitting. Alternatively, the elegant Drawing Room offers a stunning indoor setting, with its balcony overlooking the Terraced Gardens and the softly changing woodland beyond, a perfect blend of comfort, romance, and seasonal beauty.

Winter Weddings
As winter settles over East Lothian, Winton Castle transforms into a cosy, magical setting for a seasonal celebration. Think roaring open fires, flickering fire pits, and the comforting aroma of mulled wine. The Castle is spacious yet intimate, with seven inter-connecting reception rooms, allowing guests to enjoy the warmth indoors while still discovering charming corners perfect for photography.
From the end of November through the first weekend in January, Winton is adorned with traditional Christmas decorations, creating a festive and timeless backdrop for your wedding memories.
