Winton House was delighted to welcome a group of corporate destination management and incentive travel agents to ‘Champagne and Tea’.

“We were keen to have a relaxed catch up and offer opportunities to experience our new Segways, recently launched 4×4 course and clay pigeon shooting,” says Julie Britee. “We had tea in our impressive Octagon Room and rounded the day off with Champagne Tasting in the Drawing Room.”

A highlight of the party was the Champagne Tasting by De Burgh Wine Merchants hosted by Tarquin de Burgh. This is Tarquin’s blog about the event.

“It is never easy selecting 3 wines to show for a Champagne tasting, HONEST – especially when you only have half an hour to taste and talk about them in a room full of pretty ladies. It’s terribly easy to lose one’s train of thought during such a tasting. One of the many challenges I face as a wine merchant, ho hum.

“With so many options in our warehouse, I chose a fab vintage Prosecco from Zuchetto and two wines from the Louis Roederer stable. My main aim was to show that Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG (key words to remember which nearly always guaranteed a VERY good glass of Prosecco), and that VINTAGE Prosecco exists and is also excellent value.

“Moving on to Champagne, I really had to let Winton’s visitors taste Roederer. A house I have worked with since I started in the trade 26 years ago, who, I feel, still make the best NV (or multi vintage) in the market place today. They are one of the few who are still family owned and, thanks to their reserve wines in their cellar, they put together the most delicious NV, year-in year-out.

“I also showed their Rose 2009 which has to be one of the very best value Rose Champagnes you can lay your hands on. Many better known NV Rose Champers cost £10 more and Roederer’s Rose (always a vintage) is rich, rounded, silky and extremely moreish! ‘Strawberry, truffle, mashed creamy wild strawberry core, and amazing weight and length too.’ Simply put, they are both stunning wines.

“Winton? Well Winton is special! It is clearly a loved house, and not just for the family but for everyone who works there. A house where you feel special from the moment you walk through the door. History, intimacy, excitement and amazing ceilings you are guaranteed!”
