When the sun’s shining, summer wedding ceremonies can be held outside in the walled garden, or in the terraced gardens over-looking Sir David’s Loch. And you’ll have Winton Castle near Edinburgh as the beautiful romantic backdrop to your big day.
When the weather’s kind in Scotland, you can’t beat an outdoor wedding; it’s more relaxed, the ambience is great and the settings in the gardens are stunning.
After the ceremony, your party can move to the croquet lawn next to the castle for the wedding reception.
Usually, the wedding breakfast takes place inside the castle’s dining room and across other reception rooms, unless you’ve hired a marquee.
Ceilidhs and discos can be held in Winton Castle’s ballroom in the cool of the evening.
“At Winton we can let couples decide right up to the day before whether they want to hold their wedding outside,” says Rae McGonigle, Weddings Manager.
The wedding set up at Winton is quick because we have a quad bike and trailer for transporting chairs, tables and PA systems.
Inspired by an outdoor wedding in South Africa, Zitlali and David Shaw chose Winton Castle for a ‘garden party’ themed wedding in May when the walled garden was in full bloom.
“We added hay bales with tartan rugs, wheelbarrows full of iced beer (‘beer-barrows’), Jazz on the lawn, hula-hoops, croquet and football. Guests enjoyed delicious antipasti from outdoor stalls on personalised wooden chopping boards,” says Zitlali.
“Winton Castle was the perfect venue; beautiful architecture and priceless artwork around every corner, yet there’s a cosy feeling in every room.”
